Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the Collin County Young Republicans’ (CCYR) June Happy Hour at The Elwood in McKinney, Texas. It was a well-organized and energetic evening filled with networking, meaningful conversations, and reconnecting with friends and colleagues.
About Collin County Young Republicans
Collin County Young Republicans is a grassroots organization affiliated with the Texas Federation of Young Republicans. Led by a dedicated team of officers—including a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer—CCYR plays an active role in supporting conservative causes across the county and beyond. The group canvasses for local candidates, participates in state and national conventions, and hosts monthly events that foster political engagement and leadership development among young conservatives. Membership is $15 per year.
Promoting the Happy Hour
Promotion for the June Happy Hour was timely and effective. The invitation was posted two weeks in advance, followed by consistent reminders via social media and early morning email blasts. Attendees were encouraged to bring business cards to maximize networking opportunities—a thoughtful touch that contributed to the professional tone of the event.
At the venue, CCYR set up sign-in sheets and prominently displayed QR codes, social media, and business cards on several tables, making it easy for attendees to connect with the organization and access more information. The attention to detail reflected the group’s commitment to outreach and organization.

Notably, CCYR events are open to all ages, and attendees do not need to reside in Collin County or even be “Young Republicans” to participate. Although I now live in Dallas County, I was warmly welcomed, underscoring the inclusive and community-focused nature of the group.
Who Was There
The event drew a solid crowd of approximately 40 attendees—a turnout that struck the perfect balance between intimate and engaging. Among those present were CCYR officers, local elected officials, 2026 Republican primary candidates, members, and guests. It was a great opportunity to hear what’s ahead on the political horizon and connect with leaders making an impact in our region. Shelby Williams, the Chair, did a great job gathering people for group pictures.
The Venue: The Elwood
The Elwood, located off Alma and State Highway 121 in McKinney, is a stylish and relatively new venue. CCYR reserved seating both indoors and on the outdoor patio, giving guests space to mingle comfortably. Thanks to the reserved outdoor section, acoustics were great, making conversations easy to have without shouting. Attendees enjoyed complimentary drink tickets and appetizers, and the venue offered plenty of parking—always a plus.
Final Thoughts
I truly enjoyed this month’s event and appreciate how CCYR consistently provides opportunities to engage with local leaders and candidates in a relaxed setting. Their commitment to staying active and building community through monthly events is commendable. I’m already looking forward to the next one!
