July is packed with patriotic themes and historical moments that have shaped our nation. From the 4th of July celebrations to the incredible Moon Landing in 1969, you'll have daily inspiration to connect with your audience.

July 2nd-Continental Congress votes for independence from Great Britain

On July 2nd, 1776, the Second Continental Congress voted to declare independence from Great Britain, with 12 of the 13 colonies voting in favor. The New York delegation abstained, but later voted in favor. This vote, on Richard Henry Lee's resolution, is considered the day the United States officially declared its independence. While the vote for independence took place on July 2nd, the Declaration of Independence, which explained the reasons for the separation, was formally adopted on July 4th.

July 4th-Independence Day

249 years ago, the Second Continental Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence declaring the thirteen American colonies free and independent from Great Britain. This act severed the political ties between the colonies and the British Crown.

Share the historical context on social media and/or share photos from a 4th of July event in your local community such as a parade.

July 7th-Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Day

In Texas, Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Day honors the ultimate sacrifices of five police officers killed during a protest in Dallas, Texas on July 7th, 2016.  If you are an elected official, political candidate, or a local GOP organization in Dallas, share a tribute to honor your local law enforcement with a graphic listing their names acknowledging that they are never forgotten.  Blue and black colors with a police car or police badge graphic is suggested.

July 16th-District of Columbia chosen as U.S. Capital

On July 16, 1790, the Residence Act was signed into law, officially designating Washington, D.C. as the permanent capital of the United States. This act was a compromise between northern and southern states, with the south gaining the capital and the north gaining the assumption of state debts by the federal government.

For social media, share a photo of your time in Washington D.C. or create a graphic with a D.C. monument and text “On this day in 1790, District of Columbia chosen as U.S. Capital."

July 20th-Moon Landing Day

July 20th, 1969 marks the day the first humans landed on the Moon.  The Apollo 11 mission, launched on July 16, 1969, was the first time humans landed on the Moon. On July 20, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed in the Lunar Module Eagle, with Armstrong becoming the first person to walk on the lunar surface.

For social media, you can share an image of Neil Armstrong walking on the moon with a summary of the moon landing.  You can add that the U.S. won the Space Race against the Soviet Union on technological superiority.

July 27th-National Korean War Armistice Day

National Korean War Armistice Day is a memorial day recognizing the 35,000+ U.S. service members who lost their lives in the Korean War.  Share a photo on social media of the Korean War Memorial in D.C.

July 29th-U.S. Army Chaplain Corps Established (1775)

On July 29th, 1776, the Continental Congress established the U.S. Army Chaplain Corps, authorizing one chaplain for each regiment of the Continental Army.  This act recognized the vital role of religious and spiritual guidance for soldiers during the Revolutionary War.
